If you were the kind of kid who liked to go to amusement arcades in malls then you have probably tinkered with first person shooter horror games like the classic House of the Dead. The golden age of arcades may have been long done but it would always remain in the hearts of gamers. With games like Granny that are fantastically created in a lot of ways, arcade games particularly the horror ones will certainly have a place in the heart of gamers even if it is in a different platform.
Granny is created by Dennis Vukanovic, typically known as DVloper, a Swedish game developer who is best known for his other horror game Slendrina. DVloper mainly creates mobile horror games through the Unity development platform. Granny is essentially a spin-off of the popular Slendrina series. When Granny was launched on November 24, 2017 for mobile devices, it became popular as a result of the numerous Youtube like FGTeev and Random Encounters that featured the game in their channels. Eventually, Granny became available on the online platform Steam for $4.99. Granny is still popular in the current scene of horror games.
The premise of the game is quite straightforward. Basically, the main goal of the players is to get out of the house that they find themselves in. The game starts off with players waking up in a creepy and unfamiliar house. They have to escape the house, but to do so, they will have to get through numerous obstacles. The main trouble in the game is, as you can imagine, Granny - a crazy old woman who kills her victims with a bat. Players have two choices to get out of the house, attempting to open the locked front door or repairing a broken car in the garage. The fun does not end there. Apart from the things that the players have to collect in order to finish the mission, they will also more than likely come across the Granny’s super scary pets. Another challenge is to finish the game as quietly as possible since Granny is also sensitive sounds.
Aside from the aforementioned game mechanics, there are also five game modes that players can select from. If it is your first time playing the game, then practice mode is for you. After the practice mode, players can choose from Easy, Normal, Hard, or Extreme depending on their difficulty preference. Of course, you can try and complete all these game modes to see if you really are up for the challenge.
Unlike most games today, Granny is not spectacularly produced in the graphics department. As a matter of fact, Granny is comparable to that of an 80s blocky first person shooter game that is often found in amusement arcades. What it lacks in the graphics department, it balances through other considerations, specifically game play mechanics and its consistency as an incredible horror game that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
